Two day Masterclass Quilting Bookpages
Céline Hurka & Yamuna Forzani
Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19
During this two-day masterclass, 15 participants are invited to create their own textile artwork. The workshop is connected to our current residency, A New Nature – Céline Hurka, and is led by textile artist Yamuna Forzani and typographer Céline Hurka. Throughout the weekend, participants will draw inspiration from the museum’s original William Morris archive and develop their own quilted book page.
The workshop combines hand quilting and machine quilting, while also exploring techniques such as beading, embellishment, and decorative stitching—methods that Yamuna and Céline use in their Symbols of Utopia series. By combining fabrics and experimenting with stitching, typography, and ornament, each participant will create a unique textile artwork in the form of a quilted book page.
The masterclass offers designers and makers the opportunity to experiment with textiles as an artistic medium while developing new technical skills in an inspiring and supportive environment. Participants will leave with a finished quilted book piece, new knowledge of experimental quilting and embroidery techniques, and fresh inspiration gained through exchanging ideas with fellow makers and engaging with the collections of the museum.
