Omslag: today's books for tomorrow

Now on display | Till 27 September 2026

The book as carrier of knowledge, work of art, and design object is thriving like never before. The Netherlands has an active scene of typographers, artists, and independent publishers who use the medium as an artistic platform. Starting Sunday 28 June, the museum offers a stage to this new generation.

Open call: Books about change
For this exhibition, the museum issued an open call on the theme of 'change'. We were looking for publications by Dutch book makers that envision the future, create space for transformation, or approach the past from an entirely new perspective.

From an overwhelming number of submissions, the museum selected sixteen exceptional works. The selected books address a wide range of current themes, from identity to our relationship with the landscape. They show how books can help us make sense of a wavering world.

Contemporary book in a historic setting
The makers are exhibiting their work in a very special place: the historic museum library. This is one of the best-preserved nineteenth-century museum displays in the Netherlands. The contrast between the monumental, historical cabinets and the contemporary designers creates a unique visual experience.

The exhibition features work by:
Sara Alfa, Peter Bos, Leonie Brandner, Renée Bus, Art Collart with Moniek Driesse, Matthew Ferguson, Lisa Hu, Sarojini Lewis, Samuel Prater-Bellver, Carmen José, Elisabeth Klement with Elisa van Joolen & Aimée Zito Lema, Gabrielle Lubliner, Mirelle van Tulder, Prins de Vos, Robin Waart, and Jun Zhang. The presentation is complemented by a film by Hannah Schleifer & Baroeg Mulder.
